Today is a busy day! This morning I met with Congressional leaders in Washington D.C. and now I’m back on Mercer Island in time to celebrate in-person with our graduating seniors! I am fortunate to have access to the tools and services that make virtual travel possible.

Unfortunately, students across the United States are in crisis...



Unfortunately, students across the United States are in a crisis. Millions of them lack the high-quality broadband and devices required to adequately connect to the internet for remote learning from home and other locations. This digital divide in education, commonly called the Homework Gap, impacts students in every state including rural, suburban, and urban areas, and of all races and family income levels.

Join me, the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) and the National School Board’s Association (NSBA) in publicly supporting efforts to permanently close the Homework Gap, urging elected officials to reach across party lines to find shared connectivity solutions so this digital divide will be closed once and for all.
